About The Event

IWA DAIKO (意和太鼓) is a Sacramento-based taiko collective organized on principles of community building and self-expression. The name roughly means “Collective Purpose,” signifying the way in which music brings people together and allows for the sharing of our authentic selves. IWA DAIKO hopes to promote peace, understanding, and pluralism with music that honors both cultural tradition and exploration.
IWA DAIKO regularly performs for cultural festivals, remembrance events, advocacy work, and throughout the community. Our members meet twice a week for taiko practice as well as do a variety of other activities together, such as take classes, plan events, and exercise.
Why do Shin Buddhist temples hold Obon Odori?
Obon is understood as a time to:
Remember and honor ancestors.
